About Modern Frontiersman

Built From Experience. Driven by Purpose.

Modern Frontiersman was founded by Josh, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, craftsman, father, and lifelong student of leadership, preparedness, and self-reliance.

Josh served four years in the United States Marine Corps as a rifleman (0311), including a deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, in 2006. His military experience taught him lessons that go far beyond weapons and tactics: preparation matters, physical and mental resilience matter, strong leadership matters, and when circumstances deteriorate, the people around you matter most.

After leaving the Marine Corps, Josh spent much of his adult life in business leadership, gaining firsthand experience leading people, solving problems, making decisions under pressure, and taking responsibility when things don't go according to plan.

He's also a father and leather craftsman, building functional gear by hand and carrying forward the kind of practical skills and self-reliance that were once simply considered part of being capable.

Those experiences eventually came together to form Modern Frontiersman.

The idea is simple: modern life has made us incredibly comfortable, but comfort and capability aren't the same thing.

The original American frontiersmen had to know how to provide, repair, build, navigate, hunt, defend, improvise, and endure. The Minutemen understood that ordinary citizens had a responsibility to maintain the skills and readiness necessary to protect their homes and communities.

Modern Frontiersman takes inspiration from that spirit without pretending we still live in the 18th or 19th century.

We live in a different world with different threats and different tools. But the principles of preparedness, self-reliance, discipline, responsibility, leadership, and community haven't changed.

That's why everything we do revolves around four pillars:

FIGHT. FEED. FORTIFY. FELLOWSHIP.

Modern Frontiersman isn't about paranoia, waiting for the end of the world, or collecting mountains of gear you'll never use.

It's about becoming more useful, more resilient, more disciplined, and more capable in everyday life—and prepared to step up when circumstances aren't everyday anymore.

Because ultimately, preparedness isn't about what you own.

It's about who you've become before the moment you're needed.
